Modern Collaboration Environment from the Cloud with Microsoft 365 and Azure
The Association of Public Transport (VöV) is the national umbrella organization of public transport companies. Its members are over 130 transport companies and a good 180 companies from business and industry. In some areas (legal, finance, IT, HR, communication, graphics and translation), VöV cooperates with the national public transport fare organization Alliance SwissPass and the Swiss Cableways Association (SBS). Thanks to this specialist pool system, the three organizations exploit synergies and benefit from the shared infrastructure. Vis-à-vis politicians, authorities and third parties, the association represents the interests of its members and coordinates transport companies in national tasks. VöV was founded in 1889 as a cooperative and has its headquarters in Bern.
Initial Situation
As the current infrastructure - based on on-premises servers and rigid licensing structures - was not satisfactory, the current infrastructure concept was reconsidered. No more new hardware was to be purchased in the server area and instead it was to be migrated to the cloud. In addition, a complete client management system was to be introduced.
In the software area, VöV was also struggling with a non-existent collaboration environment. Until now, it was not possible, for example, to work together on documents or to share a screen view in a meeting. Communication took place primarily via e-mail. VöV, together with Alliance SwissPass and Seilbahnen Schweiz, wanted to have a common modern working environment and thus be able to appear more modern and efficient.
