Transformative Efficiency: How DIZ optimizes its Service thanks to Low-Code App
The Drug Information Center (DIZ) in Zurich is a harm-reduction service that regularly offers outpatient and mobile substance analyses at parties and festivals. The service includes chemical substance analyses and personal consultations. In addition to the general drug checkings, the DIZ offers specific appointments for cannabis samples and monthly chemsex drug checkings. Initial Situation
The Drug Information Center (DIZ) offers regular outpatient and mobile drug analyses at parties and festivals. As part of drug checking, the DIZ works together with external laboratories to carry out substance analyses. The DIZ collects anonymous information about the samples handed in, while the laboratories add the laboratory results and sample-specific data to the samples. The results are communicated to the sample owners using anonymous identifiers and sample numbers. Since 2021, the DIZ has been recording the information in a solution based on SharePoint and Excel. However, due to increasing technical problems and a lack of guidance for users, the Zurich Department of Social Affairs has decided to replace the existing application with a new, modern solution that is easier to use for everyone.
Solution
With the new solution, which is based on a low-code power app, the entire process of substance analysis is recorded in the DIZ database - from the acceptance of the sample to the release of the results. The new database enables DIZ employees to record, process and manage sample information more efficiently and securely. The new solutions also provide laboratory staff with all the necessary information quickly. This enables them to carry out an efficient analysis and easily enter the results in the new application. As soon as the results are released by the DIZ, sample owners can access the results conveniently from anywhere and anonymously via the saferparty.ch website.
The new solution was developed and tested in just six months. This was thanks to the low-code technology and the agile, collaborative cooperation between isolutions, DIZ, the laboratories and other IT service providers. All these efficiency gains and the scalability of the new solution also meant that additional samples could be administered and managed within a very short space of time. All stakeholders and DIZ customers benefit from this advantage.
