easyauth.ch: The Key to Secure Authentication in Schools

Together with the Service informatique de l'entité neuchâteloise (SIEN), isolutions has developed an innovative MFA product that improves the security for authenticating students in the county of Neuchâtel.

The solution is fully integrated into Microsoft Entra ID. Students require no onboarding to use the product when already using Microsoft office products, require no extra licenses and do not require any further devices to authenticate in a secure way.

Initial Situation

The students in county of Neuchâtel use Microsoft offices products and authenticate using a single factor password. Due to current security risks and problems, it is required that that K12 students use a stronger authentication method. Using a mobile phone is not an option for various reasons, the solution must use simple onboarding methods due to how IT is rolled out in schools and the authentication cannot be attached to a device as not all schools have student specific IT managed devices. Isolutions easyauth.ch is the product which solves this problem.

Solution

Isolutions easyauth.ch provides an MFA authentication for Microsoft Entra ID and office accounts. The authentication uses “Code cards” distributed in a secure way to the house holds of students. IT can onboard the students using a simple API and existing Microsoft Azure processes. No PII data is persisted in the cloud and the solution fulfils GDPR requirements.
