Modern workplace without internal IT specialists
LOWA Schuhe AG in Matten near Interlaken is as a subsidiary of LOWA Sportschuhe GmbH and successfully distributes the LOWA brand as well as other labels. In addition, they offer their customers in Switzerland a service center that enables intact products to be given a second life. At their location in Matten, they operate a warehouse with an area of 3’000m2, with a total of around 300 employees.
Initial Situation
LOWA‘s existing IT environment was outdated and could no longer handle the increasing demands. The email system ran on a local server and suffered regular outages. The only internal IT specialist had too few resources to follow up on the problems or even to work on improving the situation. The regular outages meant employees could not work with the same efficiency. Location-independent work was hardly possible at this point, if at all.
Solution
As part of a cloud strategy workshop, the initial situation of LOWA Schuhe AG was analyzed and a cloud roadmap was developed. In the first phase, 79 email mailboxes were migrated to the cloud and a total of 59 workstations were rolled out in a fully automated manner. Old file repositories were migrated to SharePoint Online and employees received training in the use of Microsoft Teams and were empowered to use the new tool. Today, LOWA no longer needs to operate local servers and manages without IT professionals.
